- For downhill skiing : On-piste skis need to be agile, responsive and able to make turns. It is advisable to choose skis that are 10 cm smaller than the recommended size.
- For freestyle skiing : Freestyle skis are designed in Twin Tip mode, which means they have a reduced contact area with the snow. To ensure stability and agility, it is advisable to choose a ski of your size.
- For touring skiing : It's best to choose a ski of your size.
- For freeride skiing : Freeride skis need to offer stability at high speeds and float in powder. It is recommended that you select A ski of your size, up to 10 cm more.
Why choose a longer ski?

- You like to ski fast and appreciate stability at high speeds
- You like to ski aggressively

- You think your current skis are too short
- You ski on terrain with a lot of space
Why choose a shorter ski?
- You are a beginner in alpine skiing

- You don't ski aggressively
- You're lighter than average for your size
- You think your current skis are too long

The Pionnier 104 was initially designed for the dense forests of Quebec, but it is by no means a niche ski that excels only in one area. Designed for adventurous skiers seeking powder and challenging terrain, the Pionnier 104 has proven to be an intuitive, maneuverable, and remarkably versatile ski, effortlessly adapting to various turn shapes and styles.
Its relatively short turn radius and tapered tip make carving and tight turns in demanding terrain easier. The central ski stiffness and less tapered tail provide increased confidence in turns, ensuring consistent stability even in wider turns that might exceed expected capabilities, contrary to what its turn radius on paper might suggest.
The Pionnier 104 represents the perfect blend of performance and versatility, pushing boundaries to deliver an exceptional skiing experience, whether in deep powder or the more technical areas of tight forests.
"The Pionnier 104 was originally built for the tight trees of Quebec, where it was designed and manufactured, but it’s by no means some niche ski that only shines in one arena. Its fairly short sidecut radius and tapered shovels make it pretty easy to both carve and slash through tight terrain, while its stiff-flexing midsection and less tapered tail make it feel very secure on edge — even when making much larger turns than its on-paper sidecut radius might suggest are possible. The Pionnier 104 also offers nice suspension for its weight, while not feeling like a major burden on the skin track. If you want something a bit more forgiving and fun on piste, the Pionnier 104 warrants a close look. And if you prefer a looser, surfier ride and are looking to prioritize performance in soft conditions, be sure to check out Ferreol’s new (and aptly named) Surfeur 112"
