Our story

Skiing can be described in many ways. It's a unifying, fun, and dynamic sport. It provides us with precious, magical, and unique sensations. But above all, skiing is inherently inspiring. And this inspiration led us to launch FERREOL.

We specialize in the design and manufacturing of high-performance alpine skis. Made entirely in Quebec, these versatile skis, crafted for adventure, are particularly well-suited for Quebec's and Eastern North America's conditions.

Three entrepreneurs and a common passion

It was during our time together in the mechanical engineering bachelor's program at Laval University that we realized our shared concern for designing sustainable skis and our shared entrepreneurial spirit.

In the spring of 2019, we were awarded the Éveil Eggenius scholarship, which contributed to the launch of our company by financing a part of the initial research and development stages. This allowed us to set up our first true innovation and prototyping lab in the back of Ski Michel. This was a significant improvement for us, as we had been operating in Étienne's parents' garage. In December 2019, after over a year of prototyping, we introduced our first ski model, the Pionnier 104.

Since the inception of the company, we have designed five machines to facilitate our product research and development. Our skis are designed and prototyped in our research and development lab located in Beaupré, Quebec. They are then manufactured in Rimouski, Quebec.

Incorporation of ecological materials in alpine skis

From the very design phase of our products, FERREOL is committed to upholding significant societal and environmental guidelines. We aim for maximum reduction of our ecological footprint. Thus, we have developed a flax fiber technology that is not only environmentally responsible but also possesses important user-oriented properties, such as cushioning. We secured a Mitacs Acceleration grant to further the in-house research and development on the integration of natural fibers into alpine skis.

The company's objective in the coming years is to strongly influence other ski manufacturers, prompting the evolution of habits and practices within the industry, making it more sustainable than it currently is.

Entrepreneurial fiber

We are committed to making a positive social impact by promoting student entrepreneurship, which has made a significant difference in our journey. We don't want to run a business just for the sake of it; we aim to have a real impact on our community.
In 2019, we were selected to be part of the VIP³ incubation program, an initiative by Entrepreneuriat Laval and Eggenius aimed at helping student entrepreneurs at the Faculty of Science and Engineering develop their entrepreneurial knowledge. We also received the Éveil Eggenius scholarship, designed to support student entrepreneurs who wish to take steps to validate the feasibility of their embryonic business idea.

In 2020, we received a scholarship and a special recognition prize in the business plan competition organized by Entrepreneuriat Laval. We also received a scholarship from the Caisse Desjardins de la Côte-de-Beaupré to support Ferreol's innovation project, which aims to design an alpine ski with a reduced ecological footprint by using flax fiber instead of synthetic fibers.

In 2021, we were honored with a bursary from the Ministry of Economy and Innovation (MEI), which is intended for entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35 who are leading projects for business development. We also received a recognition award from the MRC de la Côte-de-Beaupré, as the company stood out during the global pandemic. We also appeared on the show Dans l'Œil du Dragon (the French version of Dragon's Den), where we established an interesting business partnership.

Défi OSEntreprendre 2021

We are national winners in the Business Creation category. OSEntreprendre's mission is to inspire the desire for entrepreneurship to help build a proud, innovative, engaged, and prosperous Quebec.

Forces AVENIR 2021

We are winners of the Forces AVENIR award in the Entrepreneurship, Business, and Economic Life category. This award aims to recognize, honor, and promote students' engagement.

Eggenius Envol 2020

We are winners of the Eggenius Envol competition. The goal is to encourage the development of student businesses at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Université Laval.

In 2022, we represented the company at the Fowler GSIC. This competition encourages student entrepreneurs from around the world to connect and create sustainable business solutions to global issues. We also received the Claude-Lessard Fund scholarship, which provides financial support for the startup of high-growth potential businesses by students or recent graduates of Université Laval.

A team united by the love of the mountain

Although their shared love for skiing unites them, their skills vary greatly and complement each other perfectly. Félix is the entrepreneurial leader responsible for management, Jonathan oversees ski design and brings experience in sales and customer service, and Etienne is in charge of designing and building machines, as well as prototyping skis. The team now consists of six ski enthusiasts.
